Bobbin Head Cruising Club
Bobbin Head Cruising Club is a social Cruising Club of around 50 boat owning members, the majority of whom moor their boats at Bobbin Head.
Membership is open to people who have motor cruisers and sailers 7.5 metres and upwards in length.
Briefly, the objects of our Club are:
- To encourage the sailing of motor vessels in and around the Hawkesbury River and off the east coast of Australia and the various rivers and harbours.
- To encourage safety and seamanship in motor vessels by the promotion of regattas, voyages, fishing expeditions and the like.
- To take an active interest in the promotion of safe boating by the education of members in boating activities such as seamanship, navigation and the repair and maintenance of marine equipment.
- To organise and hold social events for Club members from time to time.
Activities of the club are:
- Many and varied on and off water functions throughout the year.
- We raise funds for cancer research ($35,000 over the last four years).
- The majority of our functions are purely for fun and/or for the information and training of new and old boat owners and crews.
- Our most recent training afternoon was aimed at crew and junior crew members and taught the confident and correct use of the marine radio; very important and potentially life-saving knowledge.
Our fun programme each year includes such functions as:
- Navigation/observation trials
- Picnics
- Day to Remember (taking disadvantaged children for a day cruise)
- Christmas Carols on the Water
- In-shore cruises to Brisbane Waters, Pittwater and Hawkesbury River, etc
- Off-shore cruises to Sydney Harbour for New Years Eve, Australia Day, etc.
- Off-Shore cruises to Lake Macquarie, Port Hacking and Port Stevens
- Our major fund raising function Sail for Cancer Research Day.
- We also enjoy BBQs, as well as candle light dinners, on the marina throughout the boating season.
Moorings
- The Club owns 9 moorings for members use, located in prime positions in Refuge and America Bay, Little Patonga beach, and Coasters Retreat, Towlers Bay and Barrenjoey (Pittwater).
New members are very welcome.
- New boatees will gain cruising and boat-handling confidence and knowledge surrounded by friendly and helpful Club members and old boatees will enjoy the fun and the fellowship.
